Singing English is a research based oral literacy program for learners of all ages and abilities. Singing English supports recent research emphasizing the importance of orality as a prerequisite to literacy success.
The new English Language Arts Curriculum implemented in British Columbia, Canada reflects current research in literacy instruction. The following are necessary for literacy and language success:
Singing English song-games and techniques exceed the above learning outcomes and create a successful learning environment in which students experience the sound of language by playing folk song-games. The games inspire the children to want to repeat the sounds again and again. This repetition establishes a foundation to help students begin to ‘think’ in the language being sung. Once this link is established, the students are able to represent what they hear through speaking, moving, and writing. Exploring written symbols through song-games helps students make the connection between the sounds and the symbols that represent our language.
Learn how to create engaging literacy and language lessons by using song-games! These training programs are designed for preschool teachers, K-3 classroom teachers, ESL specialists and other professionals working with young children in a group setting.
Licensing opportunities are available for individuals, studios, schools and centres interested in training and support to provide Singing English Education classes to children in their learning community.
As Canada’s immigration population grows so does the need to support these new families. Singing English Education provides training for those working with children and adults who need to learn English effectively and in a safe, fun, learning environment.
